Chanda Patterson was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Chanda worked in corporate America for over 20 years in several customer service and sales leadership roles prior to starting Kice’s Cakes. During that time, Chanda would often find herself catering events for friends and family, and eventually clients in their extended networks. The joyful and enthusiastic feedback from her clients and their referrals ultimately inspired her to start a full-time professional culinary career.

In the beginning, Chanda’s catering business was home-based while still working full time. She later made the decision to relocate to Georgia where she enrolled at The International Art Institute of Atlanta to study Culinary Arts. While attending school, Chanda entered several baking contests in the Aetna Nationwide Healthy Food Contest where she ranked 3rd place by creating her healthy dish, pan seared Salmon Spinach & wheat pasta dish for the Eastern Region. Chanda also had the privilege of preparing her award winning dish  at The Taste of Atlanta in front of thousands of attendees and her recipe was featured on AETNA’s site for several months.

“I would always help my grandmother and mom host our family holiday events along with my aunt for our family reunions. It was a time when all the women of the family got together to share, discuss, and create delicious dishes which have been passed down onto this day.”

For Chanda, getting her name and brand out locally really helped grow the business. Chanda also had the opportunity to take private cake designing classes with the brilliant Pastry Chef Edwards. Chanda has also been featured in Trendsetter to Trendsetter Magazine after winning the Hank Stewart Culinarty Artist of the Year Award, Shout Out Atlanta, and several radio interviews highlighting her love for cake artistry.
